The Czech Republic are famous for their glass manufacturing that dates back hundreds of years, but their fame for producing glass buttons in particular goes back to the late 1600's. These particular buttons were produced in the early 1900's using a frosted luminous glass. This allows the buttons to throw a multitude of colours when light and different background colours are present. Unfortunately I don't know the history of these buttons, but I would imagine them being used on a lovely blouse or a dress due to the size of the buttons.
The buttons have a delicate carving that looks like a snowflake, which is fitting for the colour of the button. The carving allows the light to refract and throw the colours. You can see the difference in colours when you look at the picture of the earrings on the green glass background and the pink glass background. You wouldn't think they were the same buttons, but they are.
Don't feel that because they are made from glass, that they'll be a lead weight in your ears! They are super light & really comfortable to wear. You'll forget you're wearing them, until someone pays you a compliment of course.
I've hand crafted a plain sterling silver setting with a short shepherds hook style earring, this is also solid sterling silver.
