Coco Chanel is very well known for her love of pearls and it was her influence that helped change the general attitude towards these beautiful jewels. Madame Chanel chose to incorporate strings of pearls to adorn her 1940’s twin sets. The house of Chanel then looked towards buttons to add pearls in a more entwined way. Button pearls became a common design by Chanel from the 1940’s to today.
This particular button dates back to the early 1960’s and was worn on a mid length woollen coat. The wool was slightly brushed, so there was a noticeable texture to the fabric. The face of the button has also been heavily textured to create a synergy between the fabric and the button. It’s this kind of attention to detail that set Chanel designs apart.
The addition of those tiny seed pearls is just the icing on the cake. It adds a lovely three dimensional aspect to the button. I’ve hand crafted the setting for the button in solid sterling silver and I’ve added a lovely patterned brass bail, in an effort to tie the gold tone of the button into the setting.
This design gives you the freedom of wearing this pendant with your silver or gold chains. You could even add a smaller string of pearls for a classic Chanel look. Elevate any of your looks with this stunning example of Chanel luxury. You’ll be having complete strangers asking where you found such a gorgeous piece of jewellery.
