The late Victorian Era saw an influx of floral designs coming through in jewellery and fashion. During the late 1800’s and very early 1900’s, floral embossed buttons were the pinacle of wealth and high fashion. These little symbols were subtle and tasteful, as is the case with this particular button. Let’s not forget, that only the very wealthy and noble of French society could afford or even be allowed to wear metal buttons during those years!
This button has been crafted in brass, but as with so many of the buttons of this era, it has had a rose gold coating to the front of the button. This was not evident until I polished the button and boy, did it come to life after that!
After polishing the button, it did lose some of it’s depth, so I “re-tarnished” the button in areas to help highlight the original floral pattern. Now that pattern really pops!
The button has been bezel set in solid Sterling Silver (925) but I wanted something more for this button. So I carefully added a delicate crown pattern around the bezel. To make that really stand out, I blackened the silver behind it. You have to admit, it’s pretty special, right?
Fob chains were also really popular during this time, so I added a little Sterling Silver fob on a sterling silver chain to retain the authenticity of the era. The swivel clasp turns a full 360 degrees, so you don’t need to worry about how you attach the charm. I have also left the reverse side of the setting open, so you are able to see the original button hook. I like this feature. It reminds you you’re wearing a piece of French history.
This is a one of a kind charm, completely hand crafted using traditional Goldsmith techniques and using genuine sterling silver and a French antique button. What more could you ask for?

Your jewelry journey begins….. with a piece of wearable history, created by Porsha Bella Jewellery.
*Please note, the buttons used in all of my creations are second hand, antique or vintage, therefore they will show signs of their previous lives. Some scratches, tiny dents, some enamel wear and even tarnishing. I cannot guarantee the quality or longevity of these buttons. In some cases there can be colour variations, and plating lift during the polishing process, this is unavoidable. I’m unable to refund or replace buttons that break or crack. Although I do put every button through rigorous testing to do my best to ensure their longevity.
Unlike costume jewellery, my jewellery is professionally hand crafted using traditional Goldsmith techniques and genuine, solid precious metals, so therefore you can wear your Porsha Bella pieces whilst swimming, showering and washing. These activities shouldn’t damage or discolour the precious metals. I never take my jewellery off. However, you may need to polish your jewellery a little more frequently if you want that shiny, brand new look. If you treat your Porsha Bella creation, like the treasure of history it is, you should have an heirloom piece that will stand the test of time.
