A Bold Return to the 1970s

These vintage Chanel button earrings are unapologetically big, bold and gloriously clip on. The original buttons date to the early 1970s and were once worn on a full length Chanel coat, created at a moment when fashion was beginning to embrace the striking power of monochrome. Confident, graphic and effortlessly chic, these earrings celebrate a pivotal era in fashion history while feeling entirely relevant today.

Monochrome and the Rise of Modern Chic

The early 1970s marked a shift towards simplicity with impact. Monochrome dressing began to emerge as a statement of modernity, favouring contrast, clarity and confidence over excess colour and pattern. Black and white became symbols of strength and sophistication, a movement that flowed seamlessly into the bold silhouettes of the 1980s and continues to influence contemporary style today. These buttons originally adorned a black woollen Chanel coat, finished with white accents around the collar, white detailing down either side of the buttons and crisp white piping at the sleeves. The coat featured eight buttons in total, four black and four white, a detail I find endlessly inspiring.

Texture That Tells a Story

What makes these buttons especially captivating is their beautifully tactile surface. The enamel has a rich, leather like texture that adds depth and character, catching the light in a subtle and understated way. Beneath the enamel, the buttons are metal, giving them a reassuring weight and substance that speaks to their quality and longevity.

An Icon Designed to Be Seen

The Chanel logo itself is wonderfully detailed, with a textured, three dimensional finish that brings it to life. This raised gold emblem ensures the earrings look just as striking from the side as they do from the front. Although the logo is a warm, rich gold tone, I’ve chosen to set these earrings in solid sterling silver. I love the way the cool silver enhances and elevates the gold, allowing the logo to truly stand out. Gold plating is also available if preferred.

Handcrafted with Care

Each pair of earrings has been completely handcrafted by me using solid sterling silver. Every detail has been carefully considered, allowing the original buttons to remain the focal point while ensuring the earrings are beautifully balanced, wearable and designed to be enjoyed for years to come.

Clip Ons, Reimagined

These are not the uncomfortable clip on earrings many of us remember from the 1970s. The clips used here are exceptionally comfortable. I’ve worn my own pair for over sixteen hours straight and genuinely forgot I was wearing them. Clients who have purchased my clip on earrings regularly share the same experience. Some wear theirs all day and only remember they’re wearing earrings when someone stops to compliment them. These are, without question, the most comfortable clip on earrings you’ll ever wear.

Please note, all buttons used in my creations are antique, vintage, or second hand, and will naturally show signs of their previous lives.  Such as gentle surface marks, tiny dents, enamel wear, or soft tarnishing.
Each button is carefully tested and securely set, but as these treasures can be well over a century old, they remain delicate and should be treated with the same care as any fine antique.

While the jewellery itself is professionally handcrafted from solid precious metals using traditional goldsmith techniques, designed to last a lifetime, the historic buttons, pearls, and crystals within these designs are inherently more fragile. Their age and patina are what make them so special.
To preserve your piece, please avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals, perfume, or impact. Treat it gently, and it will bring you many years of beauty and admiration.

As each piece is entirely handmade and one of a kind, I’m unable to offer refunds, exchanges, or replacements for changes of mind, or for age related wear such as button cracking, crystal or pearl loss, or plating lift that may occur over time.
