A Rare Piece of Wearable History
Monogram jewellery has a timeless allure. Personal, elegant, and steeped in meaning. For centuries, initials have symbolised love, heritage, and belonging. This one of a kind pendant, created from an authentic early 1800’s French monogram button, captures that same sentiment with remarkable grace.
The Story Behind the Button
In the grand houses of 19th century France, monogram buttons weren’t merely decorative, they were marks of identity. Each household commissioned their own set, proudly bearing the family’s initial or crest. These buttons adorned the uniforms of valets, butlers, and footmen, quietly distinguishing which noble home they represented.
Imagine the butler who once fastened this very “H” each morning, his reflection catching in a gilt framed mirror before descending into the bustle of a candlelit salon. This small emblem would have witnessed centuries of whispered conversations, lavish dinners, and loyal service. Now, over two hundred years later, it has been reborn no longer a mark of servitude, but a symbol of refinement and history.
Handcrafted with Traditional Goldsmith Techniques
I have set this antique brass button into a bespoke setting of solid sterling silver, with a luxurious layer of 24ct yellow gold vermeil to honour its golden tones. To preserve its authenticity, I’ve left a small “window” in the back so the original maker’s marque remains visible, its a respectful nod to its French origins.
The bail is actually an elegant textured carabiner, so you can clip the pendant onto your pearls or chains as well if you need to, or just slip a chain through the bail normally. The toggle fob, also crafted from genuine 925 sterling silver and plated in gold vermeil, can be removed upon request before shipping. Every detail is considered and finished by hand in my workshop here in France.
A One of a Kind Piece of Monogram Jewellery
Whether the letter “H” holds personal meaning, perhaps your own initial, your family name, a partner’s, your child’s, your grandchild’s, or you’re simply captivated by its story, this pendant is a rare chance to own a tangible link to the past.
As with all Porsha Bella Jewellery, this piece is entirely handcrafted by me, using traditional trade techniques and no glues or shortcuts. Each creation is unique. I never make multiples, ensuring your pendant remains truly one of a kind.
**Please note this creation is a pendant only. The pearls and chains pictured are for advertising purposes only & are not for sale.
Your jewellery journey begins with a piece of wearable history created by Porsha Bella Jewellery.
What is 24ct Yellow Gold Vermeil?
Gold vermeil is a layer of real gold over solid sterling silver. To be called vermeil, the gold must be at least 10ct and plated at a certain thickness. At Porsha Bella Jewellery, I use 24ct yellow gold, the purest, richest toned gold, for a luxurious finish that’s both elegant and enduring.
Caring for Your Gold Vermeil Jewellery
Gold vermeil is a thick layer of 24ct gold over sterling silver. Luxurious, but delicate. To keep it looking beautiful:
-
Avoid water, sweat, perfumes, and lotions.
-
Remove before showering, swimming, or exercising.
-
Gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth, no harsh cleaners.
-
Store pieces separately in a dry, cool place.
Over time, gentle fading is natural. It adds character, but re-plating is always an option if you’d like a refresh.

Important Information
Please note, all buttons used in my creations are antique, vintage, or second hand, and will naturally show signs of their previous lives. Such as gentle surface marks, tiny dents, enamel wear, or soft tarnishing.
Each button is carefully tested and securely set, but as these treasures can be well over a century old, they remain delicate and should be treated with the same care as any fine antique.
While the jewellery itself is professionally handcrafted from solid precious metals using traditional goldsmith techniques, designed to last a lifetime, the historic buttons, pearls, and crystals within these designs are inherently more fragile. Their age and patina are what make them so special.
To preserve your piece, please avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals, perfume, or impact. Treat it gently, and it will bring you many years of beauty and admiration.
As each piece is entirely handmade and one of a kind, I’m unable to offer refunds, exchanges, or replacements for changes of mind, or for age related wear such as button cracking, crystal or pearl loss, or plating lift that may occur over time.
If you ever have concerns about caring for your jewellery, please don’t hesitate to contact me for personalised advice.
