Isn’t this just so feminine and a piece that really captures the essence of Chanel. I think that’s because for me, when I see pearls, I always think of Coco Chanel, Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn.
Imagine the kind of reviews that made the headlines for the Chanel autumn/winter collection launch in the mid 1980’s, when most of the look included female models, wearing bomber jackets! The house of Chanel had taken a popular masculine fashion item and given it some beautiful feminine touches, like the length, which was shortened and stopped right at the top of the hipbone and of course the addition of rhinestones, crystals and pearls. These adornments were on the sleeves, cuffs, buttons and zipper pulls.
This is actually a zipper pull, not a button. Its life was destined to be the feminine feature, zipper pull, from one of these bomber jackets. I can’t help but wonder if this was the zipper pull shown at the launch? It doesn’t look worn at all. It’s in perfect condition.
It’s the first teardrop setting I’ve done which doesn’t involve a gemstone. I always loved setting teardrop shaped gemstones, so I was really excited to create something with this and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed every aspect of making this piece.
I’ve crafted a wide, heavy bezel setting, but as there’s so much detail o the edge of this puller, I was really carful not to cover any of that with the bezel edge. that’s why the sterling silver rub over is just visible & not too thick around the edge. Of course I didn’t want you to miss out on seeing the back of the pull, so I’ve shaped out the silver to ensure you can see that wonderful Chanel marque.
I thought I’d also hand craft a bail in a gold tone to match the zipper pull, so this is crafted in solid brass, to give a warm yellow gold glow, similar to the pendant front. The pendant comes with the Chanel ribbon which you can style around your neck however you like, or the pendant can be worn with your existing chains. It really doesn’t matter how you choose to style this stunner, you simply can’t go wrong.
