“Miriam” French Vintage Heart button charm bracelet

Provenance

This French antique button charm bracelet is a timeless symbol of love and connection. Featuring three entwined hearts, it could represent you, your partner and your child, you and your siblings, you and your besties or your parents and you.  It’s a truly personal and meaningful keepsake.

This button dates back to the Victorian era, late 1800s, a period steeped in sentiment, symbolism, and intricate craftsmanship. In Victorian fashion, buttons were not merely functional; they were decorative statements, often chosen to convey personal meaning. Hearts, entwined or paired, symbolised affection, family bonds, and enduring love, making this button both beautiful and meaningful.

The Victorian Button

During the late 19th century, a button such as this would have adorned a fitted jacket, waistcoat, or fine blouse, carefully chosen to complement the wearer’s outfit while subtly hinting at their personal story or values. Its brass base, silver finish, and soft black patina would have caught the light, adding a delicate shimmer to an otherwise structured garment. The intricate design and textured surface speak of the care and skill of French artisans of the time, offering a glimpse into a world where even the smallest details were treasured.

The Bracelet and Charm

I have bezel set this button in a solid Sterling Silver rub over setting and added a patterned wire edge to give it presence and elegance. Inspired by antique jewellery, I included a removable fob that hangs just below the button, attached by a swivel Albert clasp so it can be added to another bracelet or necklace. Both fob and chain are solid Sterling Silver.

The bracelet is hand crafted in my French atelier using recycled Sterling Silver, with each link hard silver soldered closed for strength and durability. The button charm hangs gracefully, catching the light and adding movement and interest, transforming a simple bracelet into a miniature work of art.

While the jewellery itself is professionally handcrafted from solid precious metals using traditional goldsmith techniques, designed to last a lifetime, the historic buttons, pearls, and crystals within these designs are inherently more fragile. Their age and patina are what make them so special.
To preserve your piece, please avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals, perfume, or impact. Treat it gently, and it will bring you many years of beauty and admiration.
