A Winter’s Day in 1960s Paris

Imagine the quiet hush of Paris in the winter of the early 1960s. Snowflakes drift down onto cobblestone streets, softening the city’s edges. A woman stands by her apartment window, gazing at the snowy rooftops before reaching for her most treasured possession, a full length cream cashmere Chanel coat. Slowly, she fastens the gleaming vintage Chanel buttons from neck to knee, each one catching the light like little jewels, before stepping outside to run her daily errands. Posting a letter, picking up groceries, and slipping into a café for a steaming cup of cocoa, her presence alone turns heads. Everyone recognises her as a woman of sophistication, not by her words, but by the impeccable cut of her coat and the elegance of those iconic Chanel details.

From Coat to Earrings

Those very vintage Chanel buttons, a deep, rich chocolate brown with a raised mandala like design, framed in delicate gold beading and signed with the unmistakable double C….once adorned that Chanel masterpiece. Today, I’ve reimagined them as statement clip-on earrings, giving them new life while honouring their history. Just as they elevated the cream of cashmere decades ago, they now bring a touch of Parisian poise and story rich glamour to anyone who wears them.

Because such beauty deserved nothing less, I set these pieces in a clean, minimalist setting, crafted from solid sterling silver, then plated in a rich, warm layer of 24ct yellow gold. This sustainable transformation from designer buttons to luxury earrings means every pair is as unique as the woman who wears them.

Gold vermeil is a thick layer of 24ct gold over sterling silver.   Luxurious, but delicate. To keep it looking beautiful:

• Avoid water, sweat, perfumes, and lotions.

• Remove before showering, swimming, or exercising.

• Gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth,  no harsh cleaners.

• Store pieces separately in a dry, cool place.

Over time, gentle fading is natural. It adds character, but re-plating is always an option if you’d like a refresh.

*Please note, the buttons used in all of my creations are second hand, antique or vintage, therefore they will show signs of their previous lives.  Some scratches, tiny dents, some enamel wear and even tarnishing.  I cannot guarantee the quality or longevity of these buttons.  In some cases there can be colour variations, and plating lift during the polishing process, this is unavoidable.  I’m unable to refund or replace buttons that break or crack.  Although I do put every button through rigorous testing to do my best to ensure their longevity.  *Disclaimer… I’m not able to guarantee the longevity of any buttons that have crystals or pearls used.

Unlike costume jewellery, my jewellery is professionally hand crafted using traditional Goldsmith techniques and genuine, solid precious metals, so therefore you can wear *some of your Porsha Bella pieces whilst swimming, showering and washing.  These activities shouldn’t damage or discolour the precious metals.  I never take my jewellery off.  However, you may need to polish your jewellery a little more frequently if you want that shiny, brand new look.  If you treat your Porsha Bella creation, like the treasure of history it is, you should have an heirloom piece that will stand the test of time.  If you have any concerns about how to care for this piece, then please reach out to me and I can help you with tips on getting a long and happy wear life out of it.
