A Glimpse Into Czech Glassmaking Heritage
When people think of the Czech Republic, Bohemian crystal often springs to mind. But the country’s rich glassmaking legacy extends far beyond crystalware. Since the mid-1700s, Czech artisans have been celebrated across Europe for their mastery of glass, particularly their exquisitely detailed glass buttons, originally crafted as decorative inserts for metal fastenings.
From Historic Button to Wearable Heirloom
This exquisite charm began life as a glass button, handmade in the early 1900s. Its history is tangible. While a soft pale pink centre gently fades into a dusky lavender rim, crowned with a gilded gold dragonfly, an enduring symbol of hope, change, and love.
Did you know that the dragonfly is believed to represent personal transformation and new beginnings? Is that something you can relate to during this phase of your life?
Though the original metal shank was damaged beyond repair, I’ve designed the setting to leave the back of the button exposed, preserving its authenticity and vintage beauty.
Handcrafted Setting with a Story to Tell
To transform this rare Czech glass treasure into jewellery, I created a custom setting entirely by hand using solid sterling silver. The rub over bezel features a delicately patterned edge, subtle but deliberate, honouring the ornate craftsmanship of its time. I’ve chosen to make it an attachable charm, allowing you to wear it your way. Be it on the blush-toned freshwater pearl bracelet included, or styled with a favourite chain or string of pearls.
Thoughtful Details, Rich in Symbolism
To elevate the design further, I added three faceted Czech crystals in a delicate lavender hue, chosen to complement the tones in the button and catch the light with a gentle sparkle. Every detail has been considered, from the tone-on-tone colour story to the timeless motifs and the versatility of the charm.
A Piece for the Romantic and Reflective Soul
This is more than just a piece of jewellery, it’s a conversation between past and present, between Czech artistry and modern craftsmanship. Whether the dragonfly’s meaning resonates with your current journey, or you’re simply drawn to rare and meaningful adornment, this charm is a true one of a kind. A beautiful celebration of history, transformation, and handcrafted design.
The bracelet is a stretch style and will fit most wrists.

Although I do put every button through rigorous testing to do my best to ensure their longevity. *Disclaimer… I’m not able to guarantee the longevity of any buttons that have crystals or pearls used.
