A Memorable Encounter
I had the most beautiful encounter with a glamorous older French lady the day I bought some buttons from her. She spoke English with the most delightful French accent, her voice deep and raspy after years of smoking. She still used a long cigarette holder from the 1920s, wore a fur coat, and her long silver hair was styled in the neatest chignon. Her deep red lipstick looked stained from years of wearing her signature colour, and she wore Chanel number 5. Her style and grace are something I have never forgotten.
A Treasure of Stories
She had a large collection of vintage and antique buttons for sale in an outdoor market, saved from her Mother’s collection. Her Mother had worked as a seamstress in Paris before and after the First World War, and this lady shared so many stories of visiting factories as a little girl….. magical places full of colour, fabric, and the hum of machines.
The Button
One button immediately captured my attention. The intricate brass pattern layered over mother of pearl is truly something to see. It dates from the 1920s and would have been worn on a fitted ladies jacket, cinched at the waist to accentuate the female form.
The Ring
I have bezel set this button in solid recycled Sterling Silver with an open back. In keeping with the feminine French style, the shank features a small floral design. It measures 5mm in width and 2mm thick. To ensure the ring sits comfortably and does not flip on the finger, I have made the band slightly more square than round. Vintage mother of pearl buttons are making a huge comeback, and after seeing this ring in person, it’s easy to understand why.
Uniqueness
This ring is truly one of a kind. You will never see another like it. It is designed for smaller fingers or as a pinky ring.

Now for the legal stuff:-
Please note, all buttons used in my creations are antique, vintage, or second hand, and will naturally show signs of their previous lives. Such as gentle surface marks, tiny dents, enamel wear, or soft tarnishing.
Each button is carefully tested and securely set, but as these treasures can be well over a century old, they remain delicate and should be treated with the same care as any fine antique.
While the jewellery itself is professionally handcrafted from solid precious metals using traditional goldsmith techniques, designed to last a lifetime, the historic buttons, pearls, and crystals within these designs are inherently more fragile. Their age and patina are what make them so special.
To preserve your piece, please avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals, perfume, or impact. Treat it gently, and it will bring you many years of beauty and admiration.
As each piece is entirely handmade and one of a kind, I’m unable to offer refunds, exchanges, or replacements for changes of mind, or for age related wear such as button cracking, crystal or pearl loss, or plating lift that may occur over time.
If you ever have concerns about caring for your jewellery, please don’t hesitate to contact me for personalised advice.
