I’m sure you can picture the chunky knit, white woollen cardigan that these buttons were once gracing in the early 1980’s.
This cardigan was long, so long in fact, it could have been worn as a chunky knit dress, which I believe was the way it was shown during Paris fashion week. It was knee length, with a plunging V neckline, and 6 of these buttons stealing the show. They were teamed with a pair of Chanel “ankle flatterer” boots, as they were known.
This is another collection by Karl Largerfeld, who was known for his love of all things shiny. If you study the history of the Chanel buttons, you can see a real shift towards the use of more and more crystals, after Karl joined Chanel. I’m not sure if Coco would have approved, but it seems the Chanel addicts, certainly loved it. This collection was met with a huge amount of enthusiasm.
I could resist transforming these beautiful buttons, into a pair of earrings. They certainly are made to be seen. With the long hooks, they move enough to capture the light and sparkle.
All hand crafted in solid sterling silver. These are surprisingly light and comfortable to wear for that special occasion, or anytime you feel you want a bit of sparkle. Why wait for a special occasion?
Your jewellery journey begins with a piece of hand crafted wearable history, by Porsha Bella.
*Please note… I cannot guarantee the longevity of the crystals in these earrings. I have put them through rigorous testing before setting them & I also tested then after they were set as earrings. They appear to be vey well set & with care, they should stand the test of time. But I had no hand in the making of the buttons & therefore I can only guarantee my craftsmanship.
*Please note, the buttons used in all of my creations are second hand, antique or vintage, therefore they will show signs of their previous lives. Some scratches, tiny dents, some enamel wear and even tarnishing. I cannot guarantee the quality or longevity of these buttons. In some cases there can be colour variations, and plating lift during the polishing process, this is unavoidable. I’m unable to refund or replace buttons that break or crack. Although I do put every button through rigorous testing to do my best to ensure their longevity.
Unlike costume jewellery, my jewellery is professionally hand crafted using traditional Goldsmith techniques and genuine, solid precious metals, so therefore you can wear your Porsha Bella pieces whilst swimming, showering and washing. These activities shouldn’t damage or discolour the precious metals. I never take my jewellery off. However, you may need to polish your jewellery a little more frequently if you want that shiny, brand new look. If you treat your Porsha Bella creation, like the treasure of history it is, you should have an heirloom piece that will stand the test of time. If you have any concerns about how to care for this piece, then please reach out to me and I can help you with tips on getting a long and happy wear life out of it.
