You’re probably very familiar with the Louis Vuitton brand for designing and crafting luggage, handbags, satchels, purses and wallets. The brand was established in 1854 in Paris, but did you know that Louis Vuitton caught the eye of Gabrielle Coco Chanel, who commissioned a bespoke handbag in 1925. In the 1930’s she allowed the bag to be mass produced, thus beginning Louis Vuitton’s foray into smaller luxury leather goods. That’s such an interesting tie of these two iconic fashion houses.
Did you also know that the LV empire still works out of the same factory they established themselves in in 1854? For many years the family home was connected to the fashion house, but now it’s a private museum, with the factory still operational next door.
This charm is so sweet. It’s not really a button, rather a zipper pull from a LV purse, circa 1990. The thing I really love about incorporating zipper pulls into my designs, is they are double sided. No matter which way you put them on, they’re always facing the right way. I’ve designed this charm with a lobster clasp that swivels, so it’s the perfect combination.
Because you can attach this charm to your current bracelets or chains, it’s a great introductory piece to help you become accustomed to wearing jewellery that’s been crafted using something not originally intended for jewellery. I mean, who would have thought that a purse zipper pull could become a stunning, unique piece of fine jewellery? Unlike a lot of my designs, this charm is not big and chunky, it’s a lot finer and more subtle. This charm would make the perfect gift too.
As with all Porsha Bella Jewellery, this charm has been hand crafted using traditional Goldsmith techniques. The setting is solid Sterling Silver, as is the swivel clasp. This charm has been crafted in my French workshop, so you really are buying genuine French crafted jewellery.
It’s time to get onboard the “buy less new, buy up cycled” movement. With the world becoming more conscious of over consumption, my jewellery offers you a guilt free purchase. You’re buying a repurposed zipper pull from 1990, crafted in recycled Sterling Silver and made by a small, independent business, but you’re not compromising on quality or style.
Your jewellery journey begins with a piece of wearable history…. created by Porsha Bella Jewellery.
*Please note, the buttons and zipper pulls used in all of my creations are second hand, antique or vintage, therefore they will show signs of their previous lives. Some scratches, tiny dents, some enamel wear and even tarnishing. I cannot guarantee the quality or longevity of these buttons. In some cases there can be colour variations, and plating lift during the polishing process, this is unavoidable. I’m unable to refund or replace buttons that break or crack. Although I do put every button through rigorous testing to do my best to ensure their longevity.
Unlike costume jewellery, my jewellery is professionally hand crafted using traditional Goldsmith techniques and genuine, solid precious metals, so therefore you can wear your Porsha Bella pieces whilst swimming, showering and washing. These activities shouldn’t damage or discolour the precious metals. I never take my jewellery off. However, you may need to polish your jewellery a little more frequently if you want that shiny, brand new look. If you treat your Porsha Bella creation, like the treasure of history it is, you should have an heirloom piece that will stand the test of time. If you have any concerns about how to care for this piece, then please reach out to me and I can help you with tips on getting a long and happy wear life out of it.
*Please be aware that buttons with crystals or diamantés should NOT be worn whilst swimming or showering. Your crystals may appear cloudy if in contact with body lotions, moisturisers, hairspray or makeup.
*Although I rigorously test all the buttons I use, I CANNOT guarantee the quality or longevity of the pearls, crystals or diamantés used in the actual buttons. I would recommend a more casual, special occasion wear of these pieces.
*Designer buttons have no affiliation with the brand or fashion house of their origin. I do my best to ensure all designer buttons are genuine and from a reputable source. Porsha Bella designer button creations are not sold on behalf of or in conjunction with the brand. The designer buttons are second hand, vintage or antique, with all rights removed and protected by the second hand market.
